Jennifer Morris secures an acquittal for a vulnerable youth who was a victim of exploitation

Following a trial in the youth court, Jennifer Morris secured an acquittal for a young person charged with possession of two bladed articles in public. The Crown decided to proceed to trial, despite there being a positive conclusive grounds decision that the defendant was a victim of forced criminality.

Following trial, the Court found that the young person was a victim of forced criminality, and his actions were as a direct consequence of threats of violence received.

The Court held that a reasonable person in the same situation would have acted in the same way and any alternative action would not have provided the young person with sufficient protection.

Jennifer Morris was instructed by Dervise Kocayigit of Boothroyds Solicitors.
