Overview
With public order cases testing how our society functions 9BR Chambers has the expertise to navigate this rapidly developing area of law where state power meets the democratic right of the individual.
Our barristers deal with cases involving the increasingly complex area of public order law.
Public order cases range from multi-handed serious violence and damage to the protestor in the magistrate’ court charged as a result of declaring their beliefs at an organised march. Some cases involve the protection of beliefs and proceedings are emotional for those facing them and we are aware of our client’s sensitivities. We are also well versed in arguments relating to the right to freedom of expression under the European Convention for Human Rights and the limits of those arguments.
Protest
We have experience representing anti-vax demonstrators, climate protestors including Just Stop Oil and Extinction Rebellion, and those from Palestine Action and Black Lives Matter.
These cases often involve charges such as: Criminal Damage, Public Nuisance, Aggravated Trespass, Public Order Offences, Obstruction of the Highway, Conditions on Public Assemblies s.14 orders). With protest law often close to terror offences, 9BR Chambers are aware of these serious consequences and ensure each case is dealt with under appropriate legislation.
Football Violence
Our barristers are regularly instructed in football violence cases. Whether this involves large scale disorder at matches or navigating the intricacies of a banning order or the personal impact of convictions and FBOs.
